The Importance of Swimming Hygiene

Swimming hygiene is crucial for everyone’s health and safety, and there are many easy ways to ensure safer swimming through hygienic practices. We ask you to follow these steps when you plan to swim at DKHAC:

  • If you currently have, or have had, diarrhea, you should not enter the water. Avoid swimming for 14 days after symptoms have stopped.
  • Parents/guardians of children who have had diarrhea in the past 14 days should ensure their children do not enter the water.
  • Please shower thoroughly, with your bathers removed, using soap and rinsing well before entering the water.
  • Avoid swallowing pool water.
  • Parents/guardians should ensure young children use the toilet before entering the water and regularly while in the centre.
  • Do not change nappies beside the pool or rinse off your child in the pool. Please use the provided change room.
  • Babies must wear a swim nappy; we recommend checking these regularly.
  • We understand that accidents can happen. If you or your child doesn’t quite make it to the toilet, please inform our staff immediately. Your confidentiality will be respected.
  • Wash your hands thoroughly after using the toilet or changing nappies. Please use the soap provided.
  • Do not urinate in the pool, as this contaminates the water.
